Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga today celebrates 10 years since King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II saw him and sent him to rule Buganda.
The day was celebrated at the Lubaga Cathedral where he attended a mass of thanksgiving led by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere.
The Archbishop thanked the Katikkiro, Margret Mayiga for her encouragement to serve the Buganda well.
In his speech, Owomumbuga Charles Peter Mayiga said his weapons were God and the people the King entrusted to him and he said they did not forsake him.
“In these 10 years, I have been prime minister, God has never forsaken me. God has helped me to convey the message of the King to the people and you have heard and taken it. I told the people and I still tell them that our challenges should not discourage us and should not cause us to regret ourselves because our refuge was the King that the people of Buganda have heard”
Hon. Mayiga said the challenges to Buganda are there but people should not deviate from the topic of unity as the King urged people should be a weapon in every aspect.
The event was also attended by Mr. Ssembatya Paul, known as Mulundannume, who got married in a holy marriage ceremony.
The chief guest at the event, Hon. Rev. Fr. Elijah Kyobe thanked Hon. Mayiga showed even in the midst of the various challenges he has been going through.
However, he urged him to further uplift the youth so that they can produce like him, unity among the people of the kingdom, and the quality of education.
The Katikkiro thanked the Royal Institutions, Ministers, and others who supported him in this Ministry.
The ceremony was attended by former Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, government and opposition officials, allies, ministers and officials, royal servants, and dignitaries.
Then the Katikkiro treated the distinguished guests to the guests at the Katikkiro residence in Mmengo in the Butikkiro.
